About Radiology
Doctor of Medicine in Radiodiagnosis is a three-year postgraduation course. Radiodiagnosis is a branch of medical science, which focuses on the use of radiation, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance as diagnostic, therapeutic, and research tools in medicinal practices. It is related to anatomy, pathology, physiology, and interventional procedures. After specializing in Radio-diagnosis, one can join any Radiological Sciences Laboratory or get employed in hospital settings, academic/educational institutions or they can do private practices of medical imaging for the genitourinary, biliary, gastrointestinal, central nervous system, and other organs like the brain, head, and neck, through the use of X-Ray, MRI, CT, and Angiography. The advantage of radiology is that the starting salary is very good in comparison to other branches of medicine. A radiologist who can handle all modalities i. e. USG, X-ray, CT, MRI can easily earn 3-5 lakh per month in a center doing all investigations by giving 6–8 hr. So, the positive points of radio are early settlement, almost no emergency, chances of violence are less, more like a corporate job. There are many options after M. D. /DNB Radiology/DMRD. Join any govt hospital. Get a fixed salary. Few states allow Private practice also. But this is the less preferred option for maximum candidates. Most of the private doctors earn good money and course is more preferred by the females. In private practice, initial expenditures are quite high to plan a set up and buy the CT Scan Machine, MRI machine or other ultrasound machine dopplers etc which are quite heavy on the pockets.
About Radiology seat
In MD Radiology department number of seats are quite less as compared to other branches. Most of the colleges are having one or two seats and maximum number of seat in good colleges are about 10 to 12. In the process of counselling, usual observation is that the MD Radiology seat gets over at a very early stage and is opted by higher rank students. If you are looking for the MD Radiology seat, then you will have to plan early and prepare accordingly. Not only this, it is also important to choose the right college where you can get enormous exposure in MD radiology department. As some colleges do not have good number of patients and investing money worth crores may not fetch the desired outcome. Hence, choose the college as per the number of patient workload and if you’re looking for very good college then need to try from round 1 itself. Especially in states like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Pondicherry the number of seat in MD radiology department is very less. States like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh are having good number of seat but in case of Maharashtra, there is a domicile issue and in case of Uttar Pradesh, the fee structure starts from 25 to 30 lakhs and in Karnataka, in general, the fee structure of 10 lakhs get over by the AIR of 16000 to 17000.
MD Radiology seat under MCC in Government colleges get over by the rank of 4000 to 5000 and Private seat in Deemed university start by the rank of 7,000 where the fee structure is approximately 25+ lakhs. So if you are looking for this seat in private colleges or Deemed colleges with a fee structure of around 25 to 30 lakhs per annum, then approximately AIR must be around 20000.
Management and NRI seat fees structures range 15 lakhs per annum to 1 crore per annum depending upon college to college.
